Hezbollah is not often described as rational (Gerald Steinberg, chairman of the political science department at Bar Ilan University) and they will take more hostages, it's just when and where. Israel traded 100 bodies for every 1 of there own, plus a bonus of live captives. That's not much of a bargain, unless of course you don't value the lives of Muslims as you do Jews. Why is the United States involved at all in these people's business?
What a pitiful situation the Lebanese Muslims find themselves in. They hand over 2 bodies in exchange for 200, and a few living men, none of which would be admired anywhere in the world except for Lebanon. One of these so called men personally killed a 4 year-old child. This is a warrior? When your culture has sunk to the level of celebrating the accomplishments of people like him you are truly lost. Lebanon was a cultural leader in that part of the world at one time, it can be again.

Mitch Mconnell and Big Oil
If McConnell and his employers, big oil, can hoodwink the people on this preposterous idea maybe they can talk Moron-in-Chief into invading a country in the Middle East? The explorers have not done anything with the permits they have had for many years. They like the price of oil where it is! All of this pales when we consider that continuing to burn fossil fuels is idiotic and suicidal. America must come to grip with reality, big oil is an enemy worthy of comparison to Imperial Japan, the Nazis or global communism that is proven by the fact that if big oil wanted Osama Bin Laden dead, he would be dead before lunch.
It is always amusing to read how "shocked" some people are that prices keep going up. They just don't get it! Big oil, mulit-national corporations run things now, the people have ver little to say anymore, we are only tolerated. Politicians like Mitch McConnell don't even pay the slightest attention to what the people think or want, he takes his orders from Wall St., Ryahd and Dubai. The King of Saudi Arabia now tells McConnell how to vote as well as telling George Bush what he is to do with our money. Wake up folks, what did you think was going to happen when you elected two oil lobbyists to lead the country?
You just don't mess with the profits of oil companies. Mitch McConnell will see to it. But what do you expect from a good employee of big oil, the man bleeds the black stuff. His doctor uses a dip stick to check his heart. Don't expect to see the people's opinion surface anywhere near McConnell's Washington office that has been bought and paid for by his real friends.

Republican Failures
The voters sense a major change is needed in how this country is managed. The Bush/Cheney/McCain administration has given us 8 years of utter failure.
They hide our dead soldier coming home in boxes. The are directly responsible for the price of gasoline. They do not have a clue as to what to do next in order to fix the mess they have created. John McCain would have been a good president in 2000, mainly because he could have possibly prevented the incompetent response to 9/11, Katrina, etc.
The Republican Party, along with Bush, and in the Senate, people like McCain and McConnell, must be held responsible for doing nothing to prevent the big oil companies, banks and insurance companies from raping the American people agaign, much like the trillion dollar savings and loan theft fiasco under Reagan.
Do not vote for any Republican this November or we'll have more of the same. But then you may like the idea of being in Iraq for a hundred years and $20 gasoline along with privatized Social Security where insurance companies will send you the amount they want to.

Colmes interview of Hannity
I think you'll be needing a new partner come November. The guy next to you is rapidly becoming irrelevant in the same way as Newt Gingrich. They are both old time 80s blowhards, that bled into the 90s a bit, but are quite out of fashion in the 21st century. Reagan may well be the idol of conservatives, but so what. His kind of conservatism is as dead as he is. History has demonstrated clearly that Reagan was only a little better than Bush, a bit smarter, a much better speaker, even though he needed assistance all the time, mainly due to his age. He turned his head and allowed his employers, S&Ls, to escape with close to a trillion dollars of our money. He allowed the Pentagon to rape the taxpayers over and over again although we faced an enemy who was obviously spent after Kennedy dominated them in the 60s, showing the world who was boss. As incompetent as Reagan was, at least he appeared to be working to our benefit. Bush and his conservative cronies don't even pretend any longer, it's just grab all you can while the getting's good.
Obama is destined to win and Hannity is destined to be a loser radio blowhard like Limbaugh, wisecracking to old folks on a porch in the midwest, long haul truck drivers, and other shut ins.

McConnell vs Bunning
Wake me when it's over! Bunning is opposing the godfather of earmarks and corporate welfare? When did he wake up? Must be that he thinks that McConnell's gravy days are past and Kentucky really needs someone to speak for the people. If you want to throw taxpayer dollars at problems why not choose the problems at home? Why do we always have to rescue the so called "free enterprise" capitalists? They made their bed, it's time for them to cuddle up and go to sleep.

Mitch McConnell
Bush and Cheney will be just miserable memories by this time next year. They should take all their flunkies with them, and McConnell is at the top of the list. His only accomplishments seem to be slipping through earmarks to benefit himself and his rich buddies. It's time to clean house folks. Out with the old, in with the new.
Wow! Just imagine, in January, 2011, Kentucky will be rid of the fossils and join the forward thinking real world. It's about time Washington got a dose of reality. What a future to look forward to: Bush and Cheney in prison along with some of their cohorts. McConnell and Bunning cutting bluegrass on their taxpayer paid for farms (if they're not prosecuted). The air smells better already!
McConnell is living in a dream world. He's big oil's man in the Senate, he's Cheney's weak-kneed puppet, he's Bush's hand maiden in Congress. He knows nothing about energy policy, needs, future stress points- nothing! He still thinks we can drill the problem away with enough pretty oil wells, maybe even at at Churchill Downs since they're so pretty. Prissy Mitch is having a hissy fit about oil. Too bad.

Jesse Helms
Helms' entire career was deep, broiled scar on the United States Senate as well as the State of North Carolina. When a small person acquires power so disproportionate to their mental acuity the people are left at a disadvantage. Hate mongering, ceaseless inflexibility, back-biting pretentious mannerisms were the hallmark of this nasty little politician who should have remained a local country radio personality. The Senate is a body for understanding the complexities of modern life and all its ramification in the 21st century world. There is no place for any more like Jesse Helms.
Karl Rove
Krugman (NYTimes) is on target when describing McCain's dishonest campaign now being silently orchestrated by the shadowy Karl Rove, master of failure and keeper of the doom.
McCain had better grow a spine, and quick. He needs to disassociate himself totally from anything that smacks of the Bush administrations lengthy list of failures. Had he the courage to speak out against the Bush warmongering and admit that our involvement in Viet Nam was a colossal blunder, comparable to our careless, foolhardy invasion of Iraq and that he now sees the light and wants to take America in an honorable direction, he might even get my vote.

Jesse Helms and Mitch McConnell
Helms paid his dues by earmarking for the benefit of his friends and supporters in North Carolina. No one said he was stupid politician. The poor, uneducated voters of North Carolina can be held accountable for his obstructionist tactics just like the poor, uneducated voters of Kentucky are responsible for the miserable record of Mitch McConnell. The Democrats have had their share of crooks, but they were just ordinary thieves, not the deluxe variety the Republicans offer us. Helms, and McConnell today, have been party to the greatest theft of wealth in the history of the world- the blank check given to the Pentagon for the last 8 years. All voters in America should offer an apology to the rest of the world for bringing this monstrosity of an administration into existence. Helms is dead, Bush is a lame duck that is disliked by more Americans than any other politician ever and Cheney runs a close second. Luckily, we only have a few more months to endure these people and then the toilet flushes. Even Bob Bahr would be an improvement.

Economic Stimulus
Why not get serious about an economic stimulus and offer to match the expenditures in Iraq with rebate checks to the taxpayers drawn from the accounts of the profiteers like Haliburton, etc. While we're at it let's give the serving military a double share. If Haliburton can't afford it send a bill to the Saudi government for penalty fee for the practice of usury. Bush wants to give us all $600. What a joke! This guy squanders about $3,000 for every man, woman and child in the country on an historic blunder a now he wants to buy some friends for his last year of self inflicted misery.
John Gibson, Idiot
This guy takes low class to an all time new low. Heath Ledger dies, Gibson gloats. I can't wait to see if O'Reilly, Hannity or some of the other Fox "commentators" have an opinion on Gibson's self-destruction. They sure have opinions about Britney Spears' troubles.

Sean Hannity
Mr. Hannity should have read Paine's Common Sense in high school. It seems he is entirely unfamiliar with any of his writings. I know our school systems are pretty bad these days and I guess he is the typical result or he may have attended religious schools which are worse. They teach no logic at all. The kind of ignorance he demonstrates to his simple minded followers should be criminal for its dishonesty. What puzzles me most is that his radio callers address him as a "great American," a man who has never served anyone but himself. It is an insult to all the fallen real Americans.

Parade Magazine
Just got today's issue (Jan 6) which boast a cover story on Benazir Bhutto as though she were still alive. I know they print this rag far in advance but shouldn't a world class (supposedly) newspaper like the LA Times simply not distribute such an insult?

Cutting the size of government
I suggest the U.S. Postal Service be discontinued as it only benefits advertisers. Imagine when some future historian describes how thousands of people in grey uniforms roamed the country in years past, going to every house like Santa Claus, almost everyday, spreading tons of useless paper.
Another big savings could come from eliminating the U.S. Navy as it no longer serves a purpose. Beef up the Coast Guard but lets stop building these absurd multi-billion dollar floating targets called aircraft carriers. The argument is that we can project our power all over the world with these ships. They only get us in trouble as the inflated egos of our paid warriors seek to exercise their training in toy usage.
Solve the Social Security problem by eliminating retirement plans completely. We should all work at something, always. Your job will change according to your abilities but you should always contribute. Just when people get to be really smart and experienced and are ready to pass along their knowledge to the next generation we dump them on a scrap heap and throw money at them. All the while, they sit around and imagine how many diseases they have to fix and who should pay for it. The older people who are able should help take care of the ones who are not. They should also be heavily involved with raising the very young, as nature intended.
